Police arrested three men on suspicion of terrorism following the explosion of a car with a dead person in Liverpool. A man was killed in the incident on Sunday morning in front of a women’s clinic in the north-west English city. Another was injured. The vehicle is said to have been a taxi. According to the police, the injured person is the driver. According to the information, he is not in mortal danger.
At first it was unclear who the dead person was. The police only confirm that the victim was male and died on the spot. The identity of the man must first be clarified, the police said. The suspects, aged between 21 and 29, were all arrested in Liverpool’s Kensington district.
Initially, nothing was known about the background to the crime. “We remain open to the cause of the explosion,” said a police statement. But given the way in which it happened, the anti-terrorist unit took over the investigation as a precaution. The incident has not yet been classified as a terrorist act.
