The attack had been particularly brutal. Three individuals were arrested after the violent attack on a British couple in August 2022 in Lot-et-Garonne, the Agen prosecutor’s office and the gendarmerie said in a press release on Friday. Arrested on Tuesday, two of them were remanded in custody while the last is under judicial supervision.
They are suspected of having participated on August 29, “as an author or as an accomplice”, in the robbery and assault of a couple at their home in the town of Hautefage-la-Tour. These two Britons, aged 73 and 80, had been attacked in the middle of the night by two individuals “hooded and armed with knives”.
“Serious or concordant clues”
The husband had notably received blows to the face and body “with rare violence”, before the two executioners stole “jewelry and computer equipment”. The couple have since returned to England.
After several weeks of investigation, a judicial operation, involving more than “thirty soldiers” led Tuesday to the arrest of several individuals, including the three suspects. “Serious or concordant clues” make their participation in the attack “likely”, add the prosecution and the gendarmerie.
