People who read like to think about the question: What if? Science fiction, an entire genre of literature that should be taken seriously, is dedicated to the millions of answers to this question. In Germany, people used to like to translate science fiction as “future stories”, probably because the things that were written about didn’t happen in the past, and they weren’t happening in the present either. So the only possible time left was the future or, alternatively, the fantasy as an immaterial place of non-event, which, however, is not time. Fiction literature, and by no means just science fiction, almost always occurs in the imagination, in the imagined world, also because it arises from the imagination.
