Your child’s birthday should always be something very special. Of course, the obligatory birthday cake should not be missing from the lovingly selected gifts and decorations. At children’s birthday parties, things can be particularly creative and, above all, particularly colourful.

So today we’re going to tell you an ingenious recipe for a beautiful butterfly cake that is guaranteed to make your birthday child’s eyes shine. Our butterfly cake not only looks really pretty, it also tastes heavenly good!

Butterfly cake: Our cracker recipe

Moist chocolate cake meets crunchy chocolate chips! Mmmhhh, what could be better? And if you think the butterfly cake is super elaborate, you are wrong. Because this cake looks extravagant, but is basically baked like a classic chocolate cake. With a simple trick, the normal cake is then transformed into an imaginative butterfly. The whole thing is topped with a warm chocolate glaze and lots of colorful chocolate beans.

You need these ingredients:

For a Ø 26 springform pan

For the decoration:

  • 200 g dark chocolate

  • 3 packs of chocolate lentils (e.g. Smarties)

  • 2 chocolate bars (e.g. Kinderschokolade or Kinder Bueno)

How to prepare:

  1. Mix the butter well with the sugar.

  2. Stir in the eggs one at a time.

  3. Mix the sour cream with the other ingredients.

  4. In a second bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking powder.

  5. Mix the dry ingredients with the butter and sour cream mixture.

  6. A springform pan with 26 cm (buy here on amazon) Grease diameter well.

  7. Open the oven 160 degree convection preheat.

  8. Pour the batter into the mold and smooth out.

  9. The cake in the oven for bake for about 30 minutes. Poke the cake with a thin wooden skewer or toothpick to see if it’s done.

  10. Allow the cake to cool completely and in the meantime melt the dark chocolate over a water bath.

  11. Halve the finished cake. Use a sharp knife to cut out a small corner on the straight side to create a wing look.

  12. Now turn the cake halves. Place a chocolate bar in the middle as the body and push the round cake sides against it.

  13. Spread the cake carefully with the dark chocolate.

  14. Press the chocolate beans onto the liquid chocolate in the color of your choice to decorate the butterfly.

  15. For the butterfly feelers, simply break up a chocolate bar and place the pieces between the cake halves. The beautiful butterfly cake is ready!

Our tip: Let the dark chocolate cool down before serving so that the chocolate chips stick really firmly to the cake.
