This is what WatchOS 10 could look like

Apple is working on the biggest overhaul of watchOS, according to a new insider report. The new focus should be on widgets, which would completely overturn the previous user interface and operation.

That reports at least according to Bloomberg author Mark Gurman in the latest edition of his newsletter. According to his information, widgets should become a “central component” of the Apple Watch.

This year, Apple plans to turn the user interface inside out so that watchOS will have a completely new operating concept. Gurman describes the changes as a mix of iPhone widgets and old watchOS controls, as they were last used in watchOS 4 (2017).

The new interface is reminiscent of the old “Siri watch face” and a simplified version of the “widget stacks” introduced in iOS 14.

At the same time, Apple is testing a change to the Apple Watch’s physical buttons, according to the report. In the next watchOS version, for example, clicking on the digital crown could then start the new widgets view instead of leading to the start screen as before. However, in order not to confuse users who have been using the Apple Watch for a long time and are used to its operation, the reassignment of the crown function should be optional. Basically, according to Gurman, users would be given the opportunity to choose how they use the crown function and whether they want to test the old UI or the new UI.

Gurman did not reveal where the information came from. Other references to the redesigned watchOS have so far been very sparse. At the beginning of June, in just a few weeks, Apple will get down to business at WWDC and present watchOS 10.
