The so-called “remise carburant” came into force on April 1st. Since then, the French variant of the tank discount has provided for a tax reduction of 18 cents without VAT on petrol and diesel.
- From September 1st up to and including October, the fuel discount will be increased from 18 to 30 cents per liter elevated.

Based on a fuel price of around 1.75 euros after September 1st in France, with simultaneous fuel costs of 2.05 euros in Germany, the difference is exactly 30 cents.
For a mid-range sedan with a tank volume of 60 liters, the saving would be an average of 18 euros, minus travel costs for border traffic. Filled up in Saarbrücken, the tank trip to Forbach and back would cost about 3.00 euros; in order to tank tourists save 15 euros.
According to estimates by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW), fuel prices in Germany will skyrocket in the first week of September.
