More trucks carrying aid supplies have reached the Gaza Strip in a third convoy. But helpers think that’s not enough. US President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu pledged more support.
A third aid convoy has passed through the Rafah border crossing and arrived in the Gaza Strip. The news agencies AFP and Reuters reported this unanimously.
Accordingly, more than a dozen trucks drove across the border. In two previous aid convoys, a total of 34 trucks drove from Egypt to the Palestinian territory on Saturday and Sunday, an Egyptian Red Cross representative said. Aid groups called it a drop in the ocean and not nearly enough.
USA promise continuous Help
The Rafah border crossing is the only entrance to the Gaza Strip through which relief supplies can currently be transported. According to the United Nations, which speaks of a catastrophic situation, at least a hundred trucks with aid supplies would have to reach the Gaza Strip every day in order to provide basic supplies to the 2.4 million people trapped there.
According to the US government, the suffering civilian population in the Gaza Strip can now hope for regular deliveries. US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed in a phone call that “there will now be a continuous flow of this important aid to Gaza,” the White House said on Sunday.
Thousands of war victims
Islamist militants from the ranks of Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist organization by Israel, the EU and the USA, invaded southern Israel on October 7th. According to the Israeli military, they killed more than 1,400 people there and kidnapped around 200 hostages to the Gaza Strip.
Since then, Israel has carried out continuous air strikes on the Palestinian coastal area. According to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health, more than 4,300 people were killed in the Gaza Strip. Israel is currently preparing a ground offensive in the densely populated area.
