Thich Nhat Hanh has passed away. The Zen master, monk and author was 95 years old.

Zen master, monk and author Thich Nhat Hanh (1926-2022) has died. He was 95 years old. The sad news was shared among others by his meditation center Plum Village on his website With. “It is with a deep breath that we announce the passing of our beloved teacher, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh on January 22, 2022,” the statement said. His life and legacy should be honored with eight days of remembrance.

Thich Nhat Hanh was also active in Germany

Plum Village is a Buddhist practice center founded by Thich Nhat Hanh in 1982 in southern France. Thousands of people attend the retreats offered there every year. The Vietnamese monk wrote several books and, among other things, campaigned for the topic of mindfulness. In Germany, he founded the European Institute for Applied Buddhism in Waldbröl in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2008.

In 2018, Thich Nhat Hanh returned to Vietnam from France. Until his death he lived in the Tu Hieu monastery, where he had also become a monk.
