“They are now united in death,” testifies the father of one of the victims

Early Tuesday evening, five young people, aged 17 to 19, and a couple aged 80 and 85, died in a serious road accident, near Chartres, in Eure-et-Loir. Among the victims, Thibault Toutut, 19 years old who “finally began to see the end of the tunnel”, according to his father, François-Xavier, interviewed by The Parisian.

Last September, while he was parked on the side of the same road with his friend Sofiane, also killed in the accident on Tuesday, the young man was hit by a motorist. After two weeks in a coma, he spent two months in a rehabilitation center before “gradually getting back on track”. His rehabilitation was due to end in mid-July. This road “killed our son twice,” laments François-Xavier.

A dangerous road

Thibault had met Sofiane at McDonald’s where he had worked since he was 16. It was because his friend was not feeling well that Thibault stopped on the side of the road last September. “With Thibault, they were united in the accident, they are now united in death,” said the victim’s father.

François-Xavier denounces “the absence of control and radar” on this road limited to 70 km/h and considered “dangerous” by local residents because, in particular, of the series of turns. A testimony, relayed by the public prosecutor, indicated that the vehicle in which Thibault was “was traveling at high speed”.

His father confided that he did not trust the driver, who had “already had several accidents” even though he “had only had his license for a year”. “Samples will be taken in order to search for any narcotic product and detect the presence of alcohol in the bodies of the five occupants of the Honda vehicle,” said the prosecution, which opened an investigation for “homicide and involuntary injuries”.
