These are the winners of the German Television Prize – Culture

Bill and Tom Kaulitz won the German Television Award in the “Best Entertainment Show” category. The two twin brothers competed with their RTL format “That’s my Jam” against “The Giovanni Zarrella Show” (ZDF) and Joko Winterscheidt’s “Who steals the show from me?” (ProSieben). “We never expected that,” assured Bill Kaulitz. Turning to the competitors, he said: “Giovanni and Joko – being there is everything. Don’t worry about it – again next time!”

Media professionals will be honored in a total of eleven categories in the program areas of fiction, entertainment and information, as the organizers announced. The award winners include Nina Vukovic (Best Director Fiction) for the ZDFneo production “Der Schatten” and Tim Kuhn (Best Camera Fiction) for the Amazon series “Luden – Kings of the Reeperbahn”. A total of three awards went to ZDF, two each to ARD, Netflix and ProSiebenSat.1, and one each to RTL Deutschland, Prime Video and Sky.

Jury chairman Wolf Bauer described this year’s program season as “an almost overheated competition”. The reasons include new providers and the higher number of types of use. “Programs are presented with unprecedented diversity and remarkable quality,” praised Bauer.

30 percent of the awards went to women

In these categories, 30 percent of the prizes went to women. In the entertainment program area, Mark Achterberg was honored for best direction for “The Giovanni Zarrella Show” and “Let’s Dance”. The award for the best camera in the information program area went to Nicolai Mehring for “Invented Truth – The Relotius Affair”. Other awards received included Natalie Scharf (Best Book Fiction) for “Yesterday we were still children”, Christoph Schauer and Max Filges (Best Music Fiction) for “Höllgrund” and Angel Garcia (Best Entertainment) for the dancers’ costumes on “The Masked Singer.”

This year the honorary award goes to the director and actor Bully Herbig (55). In the comedy sector, Herbig recently attracted attention with “LOL: Last One Laughing” on the Prime Video streaming service.

The German Television Prize is awarded by SAT 1, ARD, Deutscher Telekom, RTL and ZDF to honor outstanding achievements in television. This year SAT.1 is in charge.
