These are the most spectacular hikes in the world

Walking, hiking and trekking are trendy. The range of physical activity is more diverse than in almost any other leisure activity: the selection ranges from a harmless walk, to a long day hike on a signposted route, to a multi-week challenge through wild nature with several nights in a tent.

And then there are these special paths that become dream paths in your imagination because you want to travel them once in your life. Whether the Apalachian Trail in North America, the trekking route to the base camp of Mount Everest in Nepal or The Dingle Way on the southwest coast of Ireland – these routes are among the desired destinations of passionate hikers.

“Hiking is a means of reminding us who we are and our context on this planet,” writes Kate Siber in the introduction to her latest book. The American journalist, who was awarded Travel Journalist of the Year, wrote in the volume “Walks of a Lifetime – These are the 100 most spectacular hikes worldwide” compiled and described special routes.

Eleven out of 100 hiking tours

Divided into continents, the inspiring journey for readers goes around the globe, including to hiking destinations in Oceania and Antarctica. Several pages of enticing photos are dedicated to each trail, complete with a description and indication of the distance, duration, level of difficulty and recommended time of year.

The book, published by National Geographic Verlag, aims to “stimulate our imagination, to show what is possible,” says the author. “Then we have our own unforgettable nature experiences – somewhere out there on a winding path.”

On the following pages of the photo series above we present ten of the 100 legendary hikes in the book.
