The list of high-risk areas worldwide is getting longer and longer: the Robert Koch Institute listed almost 100 countries after the latest update over the weekend. This includes almost all of Germany’s neighboring countries, but no longer Austria.
The highly contagious omicron variant now dominates in many areas. As a result, countries are no longer listed as virus variant areas that are linked to strict quarantine rules, including for vaccinated persons, when they return.
Changes in the Corona entry regulation
On December 23, 2022, the second ordinance amending the coronavirus entry ordinance came into force. This means that “people from 6 years of age must have a negative test result, proof of vaccination or proof of recovery when entering the country,” says the RKI. “The general obligation to provide evidence applies regardless of the type of means of transport and regardless of whether a previous stay has taken place in a high-risk or virus variant area.” Every returnee must log on to the website www.einreiseanmeldung.de have previously registered digitally and uploaded the evidence.
In addition, unvaccinated people have to go into quarantine for ten days after entering Germany. After the fifth day of quarantine, it can be ended prematurely with a negative test result.
“Please check immediately before departure whether the countries in which you have stayed in the last ten days before entering Germany are classified as risk areas,” says the RKI website.
