There is no money for the Viking ship “Freya” – Bavaria

In 2016, three friends bought the Viking ship from the Vicky movies. They rowed with guests across Lake Chiemsee for several years. But since last season, several tens of thousands of euros have been missing to get the ship moving again.

A yellow canoe with children in red life jackets sails past the jetty. The children stare curiously at the ship, which rocks slightly in the waves. “Well, who knows the boat?” asks the trainer. A few of them report. In Prien am Chiemsee there is not just any boat in the water, but a real Viking ship. Almost. Straps for rowing has the Freya yes, a dragon’s head with red eyes on the bow and wooden signs painted blue and white, but also a diesel engine. Because the Freya was originally the setting for Halvar von Flake’s dragon boat from the well-known Vicky movies. Today it is on the jetty in front of Lothar Böhm’s sailing school in Prien. Böhm, 61, tanned, wearing a baseball cap and a green rain jacket, swings easily from the jetty onto the ship. His brown hair, shoulder-length, slightly wavy and tousled by the wind, is reminiscent of Tjure, Snorre’s best friend in Wickie. The 61-year-old laughs a lot when he talks about the ship and shows the rudder and the diesel engine hidden under the weathered wood.
