Christian Lindner never left any doubt that after the budget is before the budget. When there was a bitter fight over the 2024 budget in 2023, the FDP finance minister took the precaution of pointing out that the negotiations on the budget for 2025 would become even more difficult. Now that the 2024 budget is finally set to be passed by the Bundestag next week – after massive delays in operations caused by the Constitutional Court ruling on the debt brake – it looks as if Lindner will be right.
