Theo Waigel on Wolfgang Schäuble – a memory – culture

The last time we saw each other was when Henry Kissinger celebrated his 100th birthday in his hometown of Fürth. Wolfgang Schäuble arrived in his car, looked mocking as always and said: “Theo, your eyebrows are turning gray.” Then I said to him: “Your hair is thinning too.” In the “Last Volume” by Samuel Beckett it says: “Perhaps my best years are gone. When there was still a chance of happiness. But I don’t want it back. Not now that this fire burns in me.”
