The animal, a Rottweiler-type male dog, ran off on the evening of Thursday June 22 while his masters were walking him, with a lanyard and muzzle, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation reported on its Twitter account, information taken over by Paris Normandie .
Its owners had looked for it in vain and had warned the gendarmes of the disappearance of the dog.
“The animal was discovered seriously injured on Friday morning, on the edge of a small road, in a wood, in the town of Fontaine-l’Abbé (Eure)”told AFP the public prosecutor of Evreux, Rémi Coutin.
According to the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, whose message is accompanied by photos of the injuries, the dog was “in a terrible state”, “with a 7 cm blade planted between the 2 eyes and severe burns”.
“In addition to the blade stuck in the skull, it appears that the dog (…) was probably tied to a car and dragged on the road”explains Mr. Coutin. “The veterinarian to whom he was taken for treatment stated in the certificate that he established that his vital prognosis was currently engaged, given the severity of the injuries.”
The dog’s owners filed a complaint and the Evreux prosecutor’s office opened an investigation, entrusted to the gendarmes of Bernay, “on the count of acts of cruelty to a domestic animal”says the prosecutor.
The Brigitte Bardot Foundation has launched a call for witnesses “to help law enforcement find the perpetrator of this despicable act” and intends to file a civil action.
