Hollywood star John Malkovich appears again and again on German stages – for example in “Just Call Me God” in the Elbphilharmonie in 2017. Now he can be seen in a two-person play at the Thalia Theater.

Standing applause and cheers for a world star in Hamburg: the American actor John Malkovich (70, “Dangerous Liaisons”) celebrated a successful German premiere with the international production “In The Solitude Of Cotton Fields” on Saturday at the sold-out Thalia Theater.

Together with the Lithuanian actress Ingeborga Dapkunaité, the Hollywood star embodies an encounter between two people in the twilight in the play by the French playwright Bernard-Marie Koltès (1948-1989). With a strong focus on the body, both discuss topics such as desire and guilt, seducing and being seduced, buying and selling in a threatening, mysterious atmosphere.

The production by Russian director Timofey Kulyabin, a co-production with the Dailes Theater Lithuania, was first shown in Riga in March 2022. There are a total of four performances on the program in Hamburg.

Malkovich already had a big appearance in Bremen this month: There he was awarded the “Golden Pug” prize at the film festival – for his multi-layered work.
