The Young Nupes (rebellious, socialists, ecologists and generations, but not communists) raise their voices against their elders who, all or almost, are preparing to lead competing lists in the European elections next June. This Wednesday, they presented the result of their summer work: 166 proposals for a European program of the New People’s Ecological and Social Union. To show that, on the merits, the disagreements do not justify four different lists.
There was no real doubt about the outcome of the work launched at a meeting in Alfortville (Val-de-Marne), mid-June: the Young people of Nupes are much unionists than their elders. They are also more to the left, at least for socialists and ecologists. Note all the same that they know how to make compromises on key subjects: in the diplomatic department, for example, we are not talking about leaving NATO, an unsubdued project that makes the Socialists revolt (and not only), but about establishment of “conditions to enable member states to build their independence vis-à-vis NATO in the long term”. “The question was to know what is common between us, explains the co-host of the Young insoumis, Aurélien Lecoq. Of course some of us want to go further here and there. »
“Only young people do the work”
The leaders of youth organizations therefore mainly took advantage of their press conference in the 13th arrondissement of Paris to put “a stroke of pressure”, according to Emma Rafowicz, of the Young Socialists, on their respective managements. First on the principle: Camille Hachez, national co-secretary of the Young Ecologists, said “his immense pride” in having succeeded in doing “what our party leaders were unable to do: get to the bottom”. Leaders of parties renamed “irresponsible parties” at the same time. It was the atmosphere: here, it is not the young people who are inconsistent, it is the elders. “There are only young people who do the work to unblock the situation”, judged Aurélien Lecoq.
Finally, the rebellious became a little more threatening: “If building a list of young Nupes solves the problem, we would be ready to do so. » Is this a joke? “That’s not the goal,” says Lecoq. But if we only have this solution left to unblock the situation, then why not! No one seemed revolted when this idea was put forward from behind the desk. The option seems as serious as the candidacy of Ségolène Royal. Is she really able to scare the leaders of the Nupes? It is permissible to doubt it, but we will quickly be fixed.
Moral
The leaders of the Youth of the Nupes indeed want to obtain appointments with each of the bosses and bosses of parties. Their program under the arm, ready to put “the foot in the door”, and to dramatize the stakes. “Our generation has its back to the wall”, launched Julien Layan, of Young Generations, at the start of the conference, with global warming in mind. What the Young people of the Nupes asked for on Wednesday was not to shatter the “hope” which, according to them, was born on the left during the formation of this new union, almost a year ago and half.
“This moment of courage allowed new activists to join our ranks. People who have made the choice of commitment to the left because we have made the choice of union, ”assures Emma Rafowicz who sees “the despair rising” among these activists. And no doubt beyond that, while 75 to 80% of left-wing sympathizers want a single list. That’s the whole point: the arguments of the pro-union and the anti-union agree, but wouldn’t another defeat break the morale of the troops in view of 2027?
