The Yaouank festival forced to cancel its two evenings of fest-noz at Liberté

It is a big blow, for the association Skeudenn Bro Roazhon which organizes each year the Yaouank festival in the Breton capital. Due to the tightening of sanitary rules in Ille-et-Vilaine, the organizers of the biggest fest-noz in Brittany took the decision, “reluctantly”, to cancel the two big evenings which were to be held on November 19 and 20. in the Liberté room in Rennes.

The department having exceeded the alert threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants a few days ago, new measures are in effect necessary since Monday. There is of course the return of the mask to school for primary school students but also the lowering of the gauge to 75% in nightclubs as well as in theaters and concerts.

The fest-noz “incompatible with respect for barrier gestures”

Impossible, in this case, to organize in good conditions the big fest-noz on November 19 and the concert tribute to Yann-Fañch Kemener on November 20 because “the fall of the gauge puts in danger the finances of the association” , indicates this Monday Skeudenn Bro Roazhon in a press release. “And the practice of the fest-noz is incompatible with the respect of barrier gestures”, continues the association, forced to cancel for the second year in a row its flagship event.

Started Wednesday, the Yaouank festival does not cancel all its evenings, with several fest-noz which are maintained as well as the concerts scheduled for November 17 and 18 at the Salle de la Cité. The association also undertakes to offer all professional groups during its 2022 season and to reschedule the tribute to Yann-Fañch Kemener, a figure of traditional Breton singing who died on March 16, 2019.
