A helper in all situations: The home series “Lena Lorenz” offers a nice change from the omnipresent murder and manslaughter on TV. Now a new season of the ratings hit about a midwife begins.

The baby is cute, the parents are overjoyed. And yet something is wrong, like midwife Lena Lorenz (Judith Hoersch) quickly realizes: The blood groups of parents Annika (Teresa Rizos) and Raffael (Max Rothbart) do not match little Juri’s group. A genetic test determines that the biological parents live in Munich. But what happened?

Annika and Raffael had sought support from a fertility clinic for their dream child. Mareike Völler (Anja Antonowicz) also became pregnant via in vitro fertilization – at the same time as Annika. “Vertauscht” is the name of the first episode of the new season of the “Lena Lorenz” series on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. on ZDF

Now Mareike and her husband Gregor (Nicholas Reinke) receive the news that the embryos were apparently accidentally swapped. A shock for both couples. But while Annika insists that Juri is her child, Gregor insists on swapping the children. Lena understands both, but she wonders what will be best for the children in the end.

Meanwhile, Vinz Huber (Michael Roll) is busy preparing for his wedding to Aimee Benzweiler (Julia Bremermann). Since she wants something very special, he feels increasingly pressured. In addition, his best friend and Lena’s mother Eva Lorenz (Eva Mattes) persistently refuses to be his maid of honor. As if that weren’t enough, Lena’s crush Rob (Seán McDonagh) also returns from a long trip and awakens unexpected feelings in her.

Lead actress Judith Hoersch (43, “My Neighbors with the Fat Dog”) has been playing this role since 2019 and is once again in the picture in almost every scene. Hoersch seems to really thrive in her role. And through her bold demeanor in the film, she saves a lot of confusion in interpersonal relationships and shows a mature performance, not least during a difficult birth: “The series will always be current and always have exciting topics, because starting a family touches and concerns everyone,” he says “Lena Lorenz” star in an interview with ZDF. “The stories are as different as life itself.” The ratings success continues unbroken. Four to five million people watch regularly.

Director Sebastian Sorger (50, “Peaceful Christmas”) has already routinely staged several episodes of this series, accompanied by mostly sunny landscapes and not always harmonious music. In the midst of the other actors, Eva Mattes (69, “Long Live the Queen”) stands as a calm pole and looks with fascinating gentleness at the turbulent, sometimes complicated events around her. Five more episodes will run on the next Thursdays, each at 8:15 p.m.
