The woman who wants to save the rainforest and the world too – politics

Former rubber tapper, now environment minister in Brazil with the task of saving the world: That’s Marina Silva.

It sounds pathetic and exaggerated, but maybe it’s like this: if everything goes well, Marina Silva could save the world. The Brazilian was Minister of the Environment before, from 2003 to 2008. At that time, she managed to massively limit deforestation in the Amazon. Now, after four years of destructive politics under right-wing ex-President Jair Bolsonaro, a left-wing government has taken office – and Marina Silva is once again Minister for the Environment. There is great hope that she can repeat her successes of the past. It won’t be easy. On the other hand: What was easy in Marina Silva’s life?
