The new “The White Lotus” season is said to be “longer, bigger and crazier”. Series creator Mike White revealed this before filming began.
The satirical drama series “The White Lotus” is one of the most successful productions of recent years, at least in the USA. The HBO show from series creator Mike White (53) has received ten Emmy Awards so far. Season two is nominated for 24 more and a third installment has long been a done deal.
The third season of “The White Lotus” will be extra long
It was already known that this third season would take place in Thailand and would revolve around “a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality.” Now showrunner White revealed to “EW”.: “It will be an oversized ‘White Lotus'[Staffel] According to the 53-year-old, the new episodes will be “longer, bigger and crazier”. He is also “super excited” and “looking forward to the story of the season”.
The premiere season of the HBO series had six episodes in the summer of 2021, and season two had seven episodes around a year and a half later. Now it is rumored that the US cable channel will increase the season length to around ten episodes – as is usual for other flagship series of the channel such as “House of the Dragon” or “The Last of Us”.
When are the new episodes released?
However, due to the double strike by screenwriters and actors in Hollywood, “The White Lotus” has not yet been able to start filming. Series creator and head writer White says he is currently finishing the scripts following the end of the writers’ strike. However, casting for the new season has not yet begun. The actors’ union SAG-AFTRA is still in labor dispute, although an end recently seemed to be getting closer.
Filming for the third season of “The White Lotus” will possibly begin “at the beginning of the year,” explained series creator White. HBO boss Casey Bloys asked according to Variety recently announced that the third season would start in 2025.
