Back in 2019, fans of the series “The Walking Dead” had to say goodbye to audience favorite Andrew Lincoln in the role of Rick Grimes. After the ninth season of the hit series, the actor turned his back on the series to have more time for his private life and his family. Michonne actress Danai Gurira followed him a season later. But it seems that the 50-year-old cannot completely come to terms with his zombie years. He will be seen again with Gurira for the first time in the new “The Walking Dead” spin-off “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” in February 2024.

A new teaser released at Comic Con in New York City gives a first taste of the long-awaited prequel, which will finally reunite Rick and Michonne as lovers. But in addition to probably the most popular love story in the series, the spin-off should also clarify some open questions. In the teaser, Rick is seen saying: “You have to know that I tried to leave this place – but I failed. You have to know that I tried. I tried, but I failed. ” His last words are: “The only thing you need to know is: I love you.”
“The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live”: What happened to Rick Grimes?
The actor is referring directly to the end of season 9, in which he disappeared in a mysterious helicopter and has never appeared again since. As a result, Michonne went on a desperate search for her lover in season 10 and has since disappeared from the scene. At the big series finale in November last year, viewers got a first indication of the torment the two characters must have gone through alone in the meantime: Rick was in the hands of the Civic Republic Military at the time, who wouldn’t let him go. But Michonne now also seems to know that Rick must still be alive – and is doing everything she can to find him again.
The prequel was announced at Comic Con in San Diego in July of this year. At that time, the makers promised viewers an “epic and crazy love story” between the main actors – with insights into the last months of the two. In addition to Lincoln and Gurira, other familiar faces will also make an appearance in the spin-off. Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis and Terry O’Quinn as Beale are also returning, TVLine announced.
With an average of 14.4 million viewers per episode of the last season, “The Walking Dead” is one of the most successful series of today. Four spin-offs of the successful series have already been released, including “Fear The Walking Dead”, “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” and “Tales of The Walking Dead”. By the way: In addition to “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live”, fans can look forward to another spin-off called “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” later this year.
“The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” is scheduled to appear on the US television channel AMC in February 2024. In this country, the spin-off will be shown exclusively on MagentaTV.
