The votes have spoken… The scent of the city will evoke magnolias and Nantes cake

This was one of the original proposals of the 2021 edition of Voyage à Nantes: the public was invited to vote for their favorite perfume among three olfactory creations, developed by professionals, supposed to evoke the City of the Dukes. The fragrance that would emerge victorious had the promise of being marketed for the end of the year celebrations. The approach was crowned with success since, between June 12 and August 25, nearly 30,000 visitors went to discover the perfumes at the castle of the Dukes of Brittany and take part in the vote.

And the winner then? His name was unveiled this Thursday by the mayor of Nantes. This is Bertrand Duchaufour, a Renamed “nose”, creator of “perfume n ° 1” in the voting room. He won with 38.2% of the vote. His proposal took between 6 and 8 months of work, he says. The formula is kept secret but it contains extracts of bergamot, grapefruit, tangerine, magnolia, jasmine, sandalwood, patchouli, cedar and vetiver.

A feminine sensitivity

“I discovered this city of Nantes two years ago and I tried to transcribe its extraordinary history and culture,” explains Bertrand Duchaufour. I focused on three representative elements: the Nantes cake, the magnolias, introduced in Europe from Nantes, and the wood, which inspires me that used by the Machines of the island. “

The perfume, which will be soberly baptized “Voyage à Nantes”, has been designed for both men and women, but Bertrand Duchaufour recognizes a “rather feminine” sensibility. “It is more sensual, more greedy, than I imagined it at the beginning”, he confides.

The sale of the perfume is scheduled for November at 10,000 copies. It will cost 45 euros to acquire the 55 ml bottle.
