After exciting team fights, the semi-finalists of the 13th season of “The Voice of Germany” prove themselves in front of a live audience. In total, two talents from Team Ronan, five talents from Team Bill & Tom, four talents from Team Shirin and one talent from Team Giovanni will go to the big stage. But there is a new competitor waiting for them.

13 talents, but only five “The Voice” final places

It’s immediately noticeable: there’s one more jury chair in the studio that evening. As previously announced in the episodes, newcomer Leon “Ezo” Weick (Team Kool Savas), winner of “The Voice Rap by Cupra”, joins the semi-finalists and can also sing, er rap, for a place in the final.

Before it starts, the presenter duo – Melissa Khalaj and Thore Schölermann – explain the rules: Each of the 13 talents performs once that evening, the viewers call for their favorites and at the end of the show the five draw Candidates with the most calls make it to the final.

The coaches are shaking too

In the big semifinals, not only the candidates are trembling, but also the coaches. Giovanni Zarella, who only has one talent left at the start, says:

“Of course it was a hard blow for us that we lost eight of nine talents in the team fights – but we are still standing. We haven’t fallen yet.”

“The Voice” semifinals: These are the performances

  • Joel Marques Cunha with Train – Drops of Jupiter
  • Egon Herrnleben with Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’
  • Kim Schutzius with Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love
  • Leon “Ezo” Weick with Sido – astronaut
  • Joy Esquivias with Bruno Mars – Grenade
  • Naomi Mbiyeya with Marlon – Questions Questions Questions
  • Danilo Timm with Mika – Grace Kelly
  • Marc Altergott with One Republic – Stop and Stare
  • Desirey Sarpong Agyemang with Alicia Keys – Fallin’
  • Finja Bernau with Marteria – Purple Clouds
  • Emely Myles with Lady Gaga – I’ll Never Love Again
  • Niclas Scholz with Queen – I Want It All
  • Malou Lovis Kreyelkamp with Birdy – People Help the People

Moments of surprise on stage

Is every beginning difficult? Joel Marques Cunha proves that things can be different. With his soulful and rough voice he gets off to a smooth start. This also excites Shirin David: “You’re just a winner. Your humble nature. People are immediately drawn to you. You’re just likeable.” And: “You look very good.”

A surprise of the evening: rapper Leon “Ezo” Weick. After his victory on “The Voice of Rap by Cupra”, he also delivers in the semi-finals of “The Voice”.

Not all coaches would have expected that. “I have to say, we didn’t really take it seriously the whole time. Of course you forget that and think: Ah, The Voice of Rap…”, admits Bill Kaulitz. “That just really surprised me.” He and his brother Tom Kaulitz are enthusiastic: “Really, really cool.”

This song divides

Even before Naomi Mbiyeya sings the first note, her choice of song becomes a topic. Bill Kaulitz reveals that there were probably some doubts about this – even among Naomi herself. But he and Tom had already had in their heads since the blind auditions that she should sing this song at some point.

We’re talking about “Questions Questions Questions” by Marlon, a singer who was famous in the early 2000s. Opinions differ: After the performance, Naomi’s coaches are completely over the moon.

Ronan Keating probably doesn’t quite understand the enthusiasm. “I’ve seen you stronger,” he tells the candidate. “And I think it might be the song.” Veto by Shirin David. She sees it the other way around and is completely amazed by the performance:

“You know what you always regret the most? Things you didn’t do in life. And the fact that I didn’t turn to you is the biggest mistake in this competition.”

Kool Savas x Finja Bernau?

Finja Bernau also arrives. However, only Shirin David turned around in the blind auditions. But after that things went up steeply for the participant. At the semi-final she sings a completely new version of Materia’s hit “Lila Wolken.”

“We didn’t have you on our radar,” admits Tom Kaulitz. But he thinks: “This performance today is simply unbelievable.” This could perhaps have already landed the candidate a future job.

Rapper Kool Savas takes the opportunity to inquire about a possible collaboration. “I would love to make music with you”, he says. Who knows what will happen in the future.

Giovanni’s only chance

Uncertainty with Giovanni Zarella – he is in the semi-finals with only one talent. Namely Desirey Sarpong Agyemang. She reveals that she feels a lot of pressure – but still delivers a great performance that convinces the coaches.

Ronan Keating also thinks it’s “simply fantastic”, but also says: “The song got away from you a bit. You can do it even better.” Moderator Thore Schölermann has a different opinion: “But only Ronan Keating’s fine ears heard that. I didn’t hear it at all.”

The decision has been made

Desirey Sarpong Agyemang ended up making it to the final. When this is announced, she initially falls into a state of shock. But then the joy is great. They made it with her: Emely Myles, Joy Esquivias, Egon Herrnleben and Malou Louis Kreyelkamp. And that also means: All coaches are in the final, at least all of the original ones. For Kool Savas, “The Voice” journey comes to an end this evening. Ronan Keating, on the other hand, was the only coach to make it to the final with two talents at the same time. This means that we will see the usual constellation of coaches again in the final.
