The public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc announced Friday evening the opening of an investigation after the filing of a complaint by the mayor of Plougrescant (Côtes-d’Armor) having noted the sabotage of his vehicle. At this stage of the investigation, “the results of the first investigations have shown that four brake hoses had been deliberately cut”, reports in a press release the public prosecutor Nicolas Heitz.
the chosen one filed a complaint against X last Tuesday, denouncing “acts committed against him and which can be qualified as attempted homicide and repeated death threats”, indicates the prosecutor in his press release. “In support of her complaint”, the elected official explained that “the day before, when she started her vehicle, she had noticed a braking defect and the absence of resistance at the level of the brake pedal”. The mechanic then found that “the hoses had been cut with pliers”, according to the press release.
“Tensions with some of its constituents”
The mayor of this coastal town of around 1,200 inhabitants, Anne-Françoise Piedallu, “stated moreover that he had been the victim of a similar event previously, one of the front wheels of his vehicle having been loosened”, reports the magistrate. The elected official also reported “tensions with some of her constituents” as well as “threatening remarks which would have been made against her indirectly, in front of employees”, according to the prosecution. “Investigations are currently underway to identify the author or perpetrators of these facts,” said the magistrate.
This sabotage comes as many elected officials, including the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, have expressed their indignation in recent days after the resignation of the mayor of Saint-Brevin-Les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique), Yannick Morez, under pressure of the extreme right. Following this resignation, the government announced on Friday the launch of a center “for analysis and the fight against violence against elected officials” in order to improve their protection.
