The unions are organizing to enter into consultation and retaliate if necessary

The eight national trade union organizations agree on one point: They will not allow a decline in the legal retirement age or an extension of contributions to pass. They are ready to enter into the consultation on pensions that the government will open on Wednesday, and “will prepare (…) the response”, they said Monday evening.

“We will go to the consultation (…) We want the consultation to be fair, transparent (…) We reaffirm loud and clear that on the legal age, the duration of contribution, we will not be present and that we will strongly oppose these measures,” said Dominique Corona (Unsa) after a meeting at Unsa headquarters in Bagnolet (Seine-Saint-Denis).

“Time for consultation”

A communiqué expressing this common position will be published on Tuesday. A new inter-union with the CFDT, the CGT, FO, the CFE-CGC, the CFTC, the Unsa, Solidaires and the FSU will be organized in October. “We will not discuss the postponement of the legal age and the contribution period (…) and we will prepare the response if necessary”, added Dominique Corona.

“Today is the time for consultation and for everyone to be proactive, and we will see each other again in October depending on how the consultations will be initiated. From Wednesday we will see more clearly in terms of method, ”confirmed Marylise Léon, number 2 of the CFDT. A new round of consultations around the pension reform will be launched on Wednesday, Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt announced on Monday.

The schedule will be announced soon

On this occasion, he will present “to trade unions and employers’ organizations the timetable, method and objectives of the reform, with a view to a bill being adopted by the end of winter 2023”.

The organizations that have been invited to the Ministry of Labor are the Medef, the CPME and the U2P on the employers’ side, as well as the unions CFDT, CGT, FO, CFE-CGC, CFTC, Unsa, FSU, and FNSEA. The Union Syndicale Solidaires protested in a press release that it was not invited, demanding to be “invited in the same way as the other unions”.
