With the German edition of “The Tribute”, Sat.1 will be covering a successful Dutch show for the competition between cover bands from 2024.

They rock like AC/DC (since 1973). They warble like ABBA (since 1972) and belt out like Tina Turner (1939-2023) . As Sat.1 announced on Thursday, the Munich broadcaster is bringing a successful Dutch show to Germany in 2024 with “The Tribute – Die Show der Legenden”, the focus of which is the competition between cover bands. In Holland, the original format developed by show guru John de Mol (68) is already in its third season.

International cover band boom

Cover bands are booming. This may have something to do with ever more expensive ticket prices. But it is certainly also due to the quality of many cover bands, which often sound fresher and more faithful to the sound than today’s originals, if they still perform at all. With “The Tribute”, which will be produced by Sat.1 Cheerio Entertainment in 2024, the broadcaster is using the show deal with John de Mol’s company Talpa for the third time. The Sat.1 shows “Murmel Mania” and “The Floor” also come from de Mol’s show treasure chest.

Hits from ABBA to AC/DC

In “The Tribute” Sat.1 brings cover bands and artists to the stage, who pay homage to their idols and compete against each other. With the cover of the cover show, the broadcaster promises its viewers “Hits! Hits! Hits!” their favorite bands – from ABBA to AC/DC. From the new show project, the broadcaster should promise to cover the Dutch ratings boom.
