The transitional state of health emergency regime, decided to deal with the Covid-19 health crisis, will be extended from September 30 until December 31, government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced on Tuesday.
The government will propose, in the bill presented to the Council of Ministers on July 19, that the transitional regime, put in place on June 2 after the end of the state of emergency, be extended until the end of the year, said Gabriel Attal. This regime makes it possible in particular to order confinements and other restrictive measures (movement of people, access to establishments open to the public, etc.) at the local level.

Its adoption gave rise to a standoff between the government and the Parliament, which had in particular noted the limitation of the use of curfew. The MoDem, for its part, tripped the majority by opposing several key points at first reading, in particular obtaining that it end on September 30 and not on October 31, as the government initially wished.
France has been subject to various exceptional legal regimes without interruption since March 2020 and the start of the health crisis, between periods of state of emergency and transitional periods.
