The traffic light agrees on a new stance on migration policy – Opinion

The traffic light agrees on a new attitude towards migration, the Greens in particular are struggling to take a huge step. But they will hardly make an impression on the states on the EU’s external borders.

The European asylum debate has been deadlocked for years, but at least the German government has now reached a common line: it is ready to have asylum applications checked at the EU’s external borders in the future – like it is the EU Commission in September 2020 had suggested. This is a huge step, especially for the Greens – refugee organizations are criticizing procedures at the external borders. There is more than enough evidence of human rights violations there.
