The Minister of Education Gabriel Attal announced on Tuesday an initial report of “179 referrals to the public prosecutor” following incidents that occurred during Monday’s tributes. It rose to 357. A future “new report will be communicated later,” said the ministry.
According to rue de Grenelle, “all these reports are the subject of a systematic referral to the public prosecutor and a disciplinary procedure for the students concerned. For the most serious cases which resemble threats or glorification of terrorism, immediate exclusion of students is requested from school heads, without delay.”
Towards the exclusion of the students concerned
For “several dozen” of the 179 referrals to the public prosecutor announced Tuesday, which concern the apology of terrorism, Gabriel Attal ordered “the exclusion of these students pending disciplinary procedures”.
Among these 179 incidents noted, one student threatened to “plant a bomb”, two were delighted that a “teacher was dead”, two others “simulated weapons fire”, according to the minister’s entourage.
National Education initially identified “400 violations” during the minute of silence organized in November 2020 for professor Samuel Paty, murdered on October 16, 2020 in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines), by a radicalized young person. The toll ultimately rose to 793 incidents “due to the delay in reporting”, according to a report from the ministry.
