The Swedish man was indicted for attempted murder and placed in pre-trial detention.

The man suspected of having violently attacked a 53-year-old woman on the night of Monday to Tuesday in Nice, was indicted for attempted murder and placed in pre-trial detention, Damien Martinelli, the prosecutor of the Republic of Nice.

The police custody of the suspect, a man in his twenties, was extended this Wednesday, according to information from BFMTV.

Wanted by Swedish authorities since July 2022

The public prosecutor communicated new information on the profile of the suspect. The man, born in 1999 and of Swedish nationality, was wanted “by the Swedish authorities for having evaded psychiatric care under duress” since July 2022.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was not in possession of any papers. Only a bus ticket from July 17, 2023 bore the words “Patricio C, born in 1999 in Angola”.

However, the man was known in Germany for “illegal stay”, where he used another identity: Xin A. born in 1999 in the Dominican Republic.

Interviewed, the suspect did not want to give his identity. He responded evasively to questions, and denied his involvement in the attack by making fanciful remarks. He also refused to give the unlock codes for his two phones.
