The 90s were the supermodel decade. Four of the most famous are now shedding light on their careers from all sides on Apple TV+.

Beautiful and glamorous, but aloof and untouchable. In the 90s, a new breed of women came into the world: the so-called supermodels. Four of the most well-known are now in the new one Apple TV+ documentary series “The Super Models” (available from September 20th) provides deep insights into their past and present. In a total of four episodes, viewers can immerse themselves in the glamor cosmos of model icons Naomi Campbell (53), Cindy Crawford (57), Linda Evangelista (58) and Christy Turlington (54).

The filmmaker and Oscar winner Roger Ross Williams (61, “Music by Prudence”) and his colleague Larissa Bills illuminate the unfiltered careers of their protagonists in “The Super Models” – with all the ups and downs that the fashion world has to offer. Archive recordings are repeatedly interrupted by current interviews with the models, in which the former supermodels guarantee a deep look behind the scenes of the catwalks. Campbell speaks openly about structural racism in the fashion industry in the 90s. Turlington about her difficult personal time after the death of her father or Evangelista about her breast cancer.

That’s what the four episodes of “The Super Models” are about

What all four women have in common: They came together in New York in the 80s to make their way and climb into the modeling Olympus. For the first time in catwalk history, models became more famous and in demand than the brands and designers they worked for. Today, Campbell, Crawford, Evangelista and Turlington are iconic role models and leitmotifs for the entire modeling industry, who continue to have a positive influence today.

The series “The Super Models” is divided into a total of four episodes, each running around an hour. The first part, “The Look”, shows the four later superstars’ first steps in front of a camera in the 80s. Episode two, “The Fame,” highlights the subsequent collaboration with the biggest names in the global fashion industry. The third episode, “The Power,” tells how the four women became global celebrity phenomena. And the final section, “The Legacy,” shows how, after their prime as entrepreneurs, activists and mothers, their roles have changed in the light of aging.
