The charming dramedy “The Spencer Sisters” features a reunion with “Back to the Future” star Lea Thompson. What can the new series do?

From March 17th, German TV viewers will also be able to enjoy “The Spencer Sisters”. In the new, charming dramedy series, “Back to the Future” star Lea Thompson (62) plays one of the two main roles. As the famous writer Victoria Spencer, she solves crimes in the small town of Alder Bluffs and receives support from her daughter Darby (Stacey Farber, 36), a talented police officer who has resigned from her job. The light-hearted, entertaining series is carried by the incomparable mother-daughter chemistry of this leading actress duo.

That’s what “The Spencer Sisters” is about

Police officer Darby is not having an easy day: Even though she has arrested a criminal, the simple officer is supposed to receive a reprimand from her male superior for ignoring his orders. Instead of being reprimanded, Darby simply quits her job. Arriving home earlier than usual, she discovers, to her great horror, that her boyfriend is having an affair and she is having another affair Wife cheats.

Darby breaks up with him, but now she needs a new place to live. She only finds shelter with her mother Victoria Spencer, a successful crime writer. Victoria lives in a luxurious villa in the small town of Alder Bluffs. Her daughter originally only wanted to stay for a short time, but when the two of them solved their first crime with almost playful ease, they decided to work as private detectives, the ‘Spencer Sisters’, to ensure law and order. As a result, they solve cases that seem unsolvable to the local police. But there are always tensions between the two unequal women.

The actors and their roles

The biggest name on “The Spencer Sisters” is clearly “Back to the Future” star Lea Thompson. The popular actress takes on a leading role in the comedic crime series for the first time in quite some time. She plays the self-loving, appearance-conscious writer Victoria Spencer, who lives a dreamy, luxurious life thanks to her book millions.

But Victoria hasn’t written a new line for her next book for months. She hopes that working as an investigator with her daughter Darby will give her new inspiration and solve her writer’s block. Darby is an assertive, sometimes hot-headed police officer who often suffers from her mother’s hasty judgments, and also has an innate talent for fighting crime. The entertaining character is played by Stacey Farber, who has already appeared in series such as “Virgin River” and “Superman & Lois”.

Additional actors complete the ensemble of “The Spencer Sisters”. For example, Thomas Antony Olajide, known from “Interview with the Vampire,” plays the character Zane. Darby’s best friend from childhood is raising a little daughter with her husband Antonio Pereira (Rodrigo Massa, 31). Edward Ruttle (“Batwoman”, 35), on the other hand, plays Darby’s former high school flame Lucas Collins, who works as a doctor in the local hospital and is about to get married.

Is “The Spencer Sisters” worth it?

The new, entertaining crime series “The Spencer Sisters” offers classic TV entertainment in the best sense. For a change, the focus here is not on gruesome crimes or brutal murder cases. Rather, the two lovable main characters Darby and Victoria Spencer take on very different criminal cases in a picturesque small town setting. For example, the series pilot isn’t about a murder at all, but rather Darby helps a school friend who is falsely accused of plagiarism at the university.

The crimes to be solved are only part of the appeal of “The Spencer Sisters”. The focus is also on the mother-daughter relationship between the two main female characters. Because Victoria and Darby – who are often mistaken for sisters – still carry a lot of baggage from the past with them and have a lot to sort out. Their relationship is strained. That’s why they regularly argue and bicker in the entertaining, recommendable new TV show, which is great fun for viewers.

From March 17th, Universal TV will show “The Spencer Sisters” in double episodes every Sunday from 8:15 p.m.
