The South African singer Nomfusi at Blutenburg Castle – Munich

The South African singer Nomfusi has just thrilled 20,000 spectators in front of the big stage on the main market at the Nuremberg Bardentreffen. The TV recording is still in the media libraries of BR and kind, where it ranks second behind Gregory Porter in the station’s list of audience favourites. Now you can experience the only 1.50 meter tall bundle of energy with the amazing voice in Munich in a tranquil setting: On Wednesday, August 10th, she will once again present her new album “The Red Stoep” in the garden of Schloss Blutenburg. It shows that the 34-year-old has found her own style between English and Xhosa, between Sofiatown and international pop, between songwriter and performer. And that she, now a mother herself, has finally artistically processed her dramatic youth in a township near Port Elizabeth. In the end it was the music that saved her. Discovered as a singing waitress in a restaurant in 2007, she grew up without her father in prison and lost her mother to AIDS when she was 12 and her aunt three years later. All of her songs, from “Nontsokolo” (which means poverty) to “My Mother’s Spear” to “African Day” or “Wave of Love” deal with that. And when the hairstyle fetishist and lover of colorful clothes Nomfusi completes her program with an excellent band, a lot Dance and force conjures up live on stage, it’s irresistible anyway.
