Socialist parliamentarians will not participate in “any consultation” with Elisabeth Borne on the post-pension reform, they announced on Sunday, but first secretary Olivier Faure will go to Matignon to discuss the “general situation of the country”.
“We do not wish to participate in any consultation on the continuation of the parliamentary calendar (…) before knowing the follow-up given to your meeting with the inter-union scheduled for April 5,” write Olivier Faure, Boris Vallaud and Patrick Kanner, leaders of the groups. Boycott of consultations
The other forces of the left coalition Nupes – LFI, PCF, EELV – had already announced the boycott of these consultations. “Our conviction is that the condition for the appeasement of the country, as well as the restoration of a dialogue with parliamentarians, is in the withdrawal of the reform” of pensions, underline the leaders of the PS. And “it is for the sole purpose of discussing the general situation of the country that Olivier Faure, first secretary of the Socialist Party, will meet you”, they continue, without specifying the date of this meeting at Matignon.
A socialist parliamentary source believes that the PS is on the same line as EELV, which declined the consultation organized by the Prime Minister on post-retirement, but organized a meeting between the leader of the green party Marine Tondelier and Elisabeth Borne to talk about “the maintenance of order, the climate of violence against environmental activists and the necessary appeasement” on Tuesday. Elisabeth Borne multiplies the meetings from Monday to try to “appease” the tensions, consultations boycotted by the parliamentary groups of the left and which could turn into a dialogue of the deaf with the inter-union on Wednesday, given the inflexibility of the executive on the postponement to 64 of the legal retirement age.
