The ski book: The magic of gliding through the snow

Things are not looking good for a skiing holiday in the mountains these weeks. In the German-speaking Alpine region from Berchtesgaden to Oberstdorf, the 2G-Plus rule applies to cable cars. The neighboring country Austria is again in lockdown. In Switzerland there is a compulsory test before and after entry even for those who have been completely vaccinated, and in South Tyrol, Italy, the seven-day incidence is more than 620 per 100,000 inhabitants. These are the worst possible prerequisites for planning your coming winter vacation.

Since the pandemic has severely restricted the possibilities of skiing, including hut fun and après-ski, a replacement is urgently needed to immerse yourself in the winter world. A new book for all skiers, snowboarders and cross-country skiers comes at just the right time. Under the simple title “The ski book” has the publisher Marmota Maps from Hamburg, after the great success of the “Alpenbuch”, publish a new work in the same style, which can hardly be surpassed in terms of wealth of information about skiing holidays.

There are hardly any texts to read, instead there are 1000 infographics, illustrations and maps. There is no avalanche of information rolling towards you via this visual path, instead you get to eleven subject areas that are never overloaded: ski history, ski technology, snowboarding, skiing, ski areas, the environment, competitive sports, touring, alpine dangers, tourism and economy as well as ski culture.

As an author, the editors Spiegel and Lana Brag den Ski builder Steffen Heycke who has been involved in snow sports for almost 50 years. When leafing through the “ski book” you get stuck after a few pages, immerse yourself in the graphics and learn so many new, unknown and curious things.

The only downer? This picture book encourages the longing to finally stand on the boards again in snowy landscapes and rush downhill.
