The situation in Bavarian intensive care units is becoming increasingly relaxed – Bavaria

The operating situation in the Bavarian intensive care units is becoming more and more relaxed. On Wednesday, 89 adult intensive care units in the Free State reported regular operation, which was more than since July 2021, according to the figures from the nationwide DIVI intensive care register. 46 intensive care units reported restricted operation, 31 partially restricted. A further 25 stations made no statements on Wednesday.

This continues a trend towards relaxation that has persisted with certain fluctuations since January. At the beginning of the year, 89 intensive care units reported restricted operation and only 43 regular ones. At the peak of the corona waves, the situation was sometimes significantly worse. In the meantime, however, Covid-19 is practically irrelevant: as of Wednesday, out of 2,455 patients registered with the DIVI in Bavarian intensive care units, only 20 were considered Covid cases.

But despite the strong improvement since the beginning of the year, the operating situation in the intensive care units is still worse than in the first months of the corona pandemic, according to their own assessment. In August 2020, around 130 intensive care units reported regular operation and just over 20 restricted. The fact that the situation in the intensive care units is only slowly returning to normal even after the stress after Corona is partly due to a tense staff situation.

The Bavarian Ministry of Health emphasized that there are a comparatively large number of intensive care beds in the Free State. The Bavarian Hospital Society (BKG) also emphasized that the current intensive care capacities in the Free State are “stable and correspond to the national average”. A higher emergency reserve is currently not necessary.
