6:40 am: Erdogan tempers Stockholm’s expectations of NATO

Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned on Wednesday that Turkey will not necessarily “meet” the “expectations” of Sweden, a candidate for NATO membership, at the Atlantic Alliance summit in July.

The Turkish president has been blocking entry into Sweden for thirteen months, accusing it in particular of alleged leniency towards Kurdish militants who have taken refuge on its soil. “For us to meet these expectations, Sweden must first do its part,” added the head of state.
