The royal couple choose a quiche as their main course for the big day

A vegetarian recipe that few people had probably seen coming. After the coronation chicken, the poached chicken served for the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953, Charles and Camilla announced on Monday the recipe of their choice for their big day: a spinach, broad bean and tarragon quiche. The king and queen consort, who will be crowned on May 6, “chosen in person” the recipe for this quiche, a dish common in France but rare in the United Kingdom, which is presented on the Twitter account of the royal family.

She is expected to “encourage” Britons to get involved in the big coronation luncheon, the neighborhood party which will take place on the weekend of May 6, they hope. The message is accompanied by a video showing a chef preparing the “coronation quiche”.

For the recipe, in addition to spinach, beans and tarragon, milk, fresh cream, eggs and of course, cheddar cheese are needed. It is a dish that “easily adapts to different tastes and preferences”, boasts the royal family on Twitter. “To be eaten hot or cold with a green salad and boiled new potatoes”.

The queen’s chicken had become a classic

Will the royal quiche be as successful as the coronation chicken of Elizabeth II or “Chicken Queen Elizabeth”? This poached chicken coated in a creamy curry sauce, served at Buckingham Palace during a Queen’s coronation banquet in 1953, has become a classic of British gastronomy. It is now offered as a prepared dish in supermarkets, as a filling for sandwiches or in several variations in cookbooks.

The coronation of Charles and his wife Camilla will take place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey, in the presence of around 2,000 guests. It will be followed in the weekend of neighborhood parties, a concert at Windsor Castle, west London. The British are also called upon to volunteer on Monday, May 8, which will be a public holiday.
