After the cliffhanger at the end of season 5: Nathan Fillion returns to Sky as “The Rookie” in season 6.

“The Rookie” is no longer a rookie. The series about police newcomer John Nolan is already in its sixth round. The German dubbed version of season 6 of the hit series with Nathan Fillion (53) will start on Sky on May 1, 2024. It can then be seen on Sky One and the in-house streaming service Wow.

“The Rookie” is included in the English language original Sky since February 21st of this year. Versions with German subtitles have also been available since March 6th. The new episodes will run parallel to the broadcast in the USA. The 7th episode of season six will be broadcast on ABC on March 30th.

This is what happens after the cliffhanger in season 6

The fifth season of “The Rookie” ended with a nasty cliffhanger. Aaron (Tru Valentino, 35) and Celina (Lisseth Chavez, 34) were ambushed. Scary masked men lie in wait for them. One of them hits Celina hard on the head and Aaron is shot in the back. The cop falls into a coma. Whether he will survive is uncertain at the start of the sixth season. Celina’s condition is also critical.

Aaron and Celina aren’t the only police officers targeted by the masked men. Apparently a mysterious group is targeting the cops from the Mid-Wilshire Division. The trail leads to a certain Luke Moran. He is shot, but it turns out to be just a diversionary tactic. Season six is now primarily about the fight against the mysterious man behind it.

There are so many SPOILERS: But there are also positive developments for the LAPD cops. John Nolan and Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan, 43) get married. But on their honeymoon, the police officer and the firefighter get caught up in a murder case. Things aren’t going so well for another couple: Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil, 35) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter, 47). There is a crisis among the fan favorites, who are called Chenford as a couple by the fans.

The Rookie: What Happened So Far

Anyone who wants to enter the world of “The Rookie” before the German-language start of round six can catch up on the previous five seasons on Sky and Wow, where they are available on demand.

The focus of the crime dramedy is John Nolan. The building contractor played by “Castle” star Nathan Fillion is recently divorced and has sent his son off to college. A bank robbery radically changes the forty-something’s life. He can help the police during the attack by distracting the perpetrator.

Nolan decides to become a police officer in his old age. He leaves his home in Pennsylvania and moves to Los Angeles. There he undergoes training at the Police Academy as the oldest “rookie” of all time. Then he starts working for the Los Angeles Police Department.

At first he is laughed at by his younger colleagues as a walking midlife crisis. The comedy of the series arises from the difference between his advanced age and his inexperience in the job.

Of course, as the episodes progressed, this premise increasingly faded into the background as Nolan’s increasing experience in the service. At the beginning of the fourth season, the latecomer has completed his training. It’s more about the dynamics within the LAPD, which is full of different characters.

The True Story Behind “The Rookie”

“The Rookie” is actually based on a true case. The model for the character John Nolan is a certain Bill Norcross. The man from Pennsylvania decided to become a police officer at the age of 44. He had considered this career twenty years ago, but then he had to help out in the family business after his mother died. He got stuck there. However, the real career changer did not have an awakening experience like the bank robbery did for Nolan.

In Los Angeles, Bill Norcross met Jon Steinberg, who was in show business. Inspired by his friend’s anecdotes, Steinberg developed the concept of “The Rookie”. He and Norcross both serve as producers on the series. The real rookie had a guest appearance as a police officer in the first season.

By the way, the sixth season does not mark the end of “The Rookie”. After the opening episode of the season in February achieved the strongest ratings since the second episode in 2018, the US broadcaster ABC commissioned a seventh edition.
