Asked about FranceInfo this Monday, Tony Renucci, director of the Respire association castigates the insufficient consideration of air pollution while differentiated traffic is extended “at least until Monday” in Île-de-France.
The episode of fine particle pollution is “very classic” at this time of year. The lack of wind prevents pollutants from dispersing. Air pollution is a subject which “is not sufficiently taken into account today”, regrets Tony Renucci who recalls that on this subject “France was nevertheless doubly condemned in 2019 and in 2021 for its insufficient action”.
No outdoor sports
Tony Renucci believes that differentiated traffic is “a good system” which makes it possible “to reduce one of the two most important sources of pollution”. He nevertheless gives advice on how to limit the impact of the episode on the health of city dwellers, who are already very exposed to air pollution.
According to the director of the Respire association, it is first of all essential “to really avoid outdoor sporting activity”. During physical activity, we breathe “ten times more”, he points out. Playing sports during a pollution episode is therefore like going from “Paris to Bombay” in a few strides. He also advises to ventilate morning and evening in order to ensure the “renewal of the air”.
