A week after the tragedy that claimed the life of Chahinez, 31, burned alive in the street by her ex-husband, on May 5 in Mérignac (Gironde), the inspection mission decided by various ministers has just returned its first conclusions.
“The progress report of the inspection mission of the operation of the general inspectorate of administration and the general inspectorate of justice was submitted today to Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, Eric Dupond- Moretti, Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice and Marlène Schiappa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior on the criminal acts that occurred last Tuesday in Mérignac. It reveals a series of failures that can be blamed on different actors in communication and coordination between services. “
The ex-husband already imprisoned for domestic violence in 2020
The mission must continue to characterize these dysfunctions and propose appropriate initiatives to remedy them. The final report is due on June 10. Its findings will be made public.
The mission must in particular study the conditions of release and the follow-up of the ex-husband of the victim, Mounir, 44, already imprisoned for domestic violence in 2020 and who was serving a suspended prison sentence. His ex-wife had filed a complaint against him on March 16, at the Mérignac police station, for an assault committed in the morning, according to the prosecution. But the person, wanted by the police, was “nowhere to be found”.
On May 5, he showed up at her home, chased her down the street, fired several shots in her legs until she collapsed, then sprayed her with a flammable liquid while she was still alive and set her on fire, according to the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office and the police.
