The region will experiment with menstrual leave

It will be “the first region in France to implement menstrual leave”. The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region announced in a press release on Tuesday that it will submit to the vote of the standing committee, on Monday October 2, “the establishment of menstrual leave for community agents who will be able to have, upon medical proof, two days of special authorization of absence per month, with no waiting day and therefore no salary deduction. »

However, this is not the first community to propose such a measure. At the end of March, the town of Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis) launched the experiment with menstrual leave for its female agents, in June the Gironde departmental council announced its intention to offer adjustments to its female agents suffering from painful periods, while the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg and the metropolis of Lyon have announced in recent days that they will put in place a similar system next year.

“Improving the daily lives of agents”

This will be an “experiment” specifies the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, which “responds to health issues for the women concerned and quality of life at work. »

“One in ten women of childbearing age have endometriosis and one in two women say they suffer from painful periods,” adds the regional council. In the absence of a national measure, it is the responsibility of each employer to improve the daily professional lives of agents suffering from endometriosis or painful periods. »
