The RATP obliged to limit the speed of its metros, RER and trams

RER, trains and trams victims of the heat wave. While the 40 degrees were exceeded in Paris and Ile-de-France, the RATP was forced to reduce the speed of its machines circulating in the open air. Indeed, the heat endangers the infrastructures. Certain portions of the rails should reach 57 degrees this Tuesday afternoon “requiring, as a safety measure, the limitation of the speed of the trains”, explained the management in a press release.

This concerns lines A and B of the RER, the aerial sections of metro lines 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 13 and the T1 and T2 trams. The RERs only run there at a maximum of 60 km/h instead of the usual 100 km/h and the metro at 30-40 km/h instead of 60 km/h.

The rails are checked in real time, as well as the catenaries of the RER and trams are monitored during the day, assured the RATP. Several water distributions were organized Tuesday in stations or stations of the RATP network, according to the public company.
