The rate raised from 2 to 3% from February 1, following a proposal from the Governor of the Banque de France

The Governor of the Banque de France proposed this Friday to the Minister of Economy and Finance to raise the Livret A rate from 2% to 3% on February 1, a level unprecedented since 2009 but still significantly lower than the inflation. Bruno Le Maire gave the green light for this increase in stride.

While it could theoretically have reached 3.3%, François Villeroy de Galhau invokes in a press release “exceptional circumstances” to justify a slightly lower rate. As for the popular savings account rate (LEP), reserved for the most modest households, it will drop from 4.6 to 6.1%. “We will be the only country in Europe which will offer its compatriots a guaranteed savings account at a rate higher than inflation,” the minister declared on France 2.
