The race at Silverstone now live!

3:58 p.m

tire choice

The tire list for the start is here, and this time there are some differences. Russell, Ocon, Tsunoda and de Vries start on the soft tyres, Hülkenberg and Bottas on the hard ones, the other pilots on medium.

The big question: will it rain during the race? The official probability is given as 40 percent.

Open the session ticker now!

In ten minutes the race will finally start, and here at this point you will find the most important information, pictures and voices as usual.

You can get the complete coverage in our session ticker with Stefan Ehlen. It’s best to just let both tickers run in parallel.

And if you want to know how to watch Formula 1 live stream at Silverstone, you can find out here!

VIPs

Of course, the starting line-up is again full of numerous celebrities this time – also apart from Brad Pitt and Co. But slowly enough with the show, we want to see racing now!

3:27 p.m

All cars in the grid

All 20 cars successfully made it onto the grid – or even 22 if you count “APXGP”! Means: It’s slowly getting into the hot phase, it’ll start in a good half hour.

Speaking of hot: The air temperature is around 30 minutes before the start at 22.3 degrees, the asphalt is 34 degrees warm.

3:00 p.m

No more shifts

The starting grid is set!

There are no more postponements due to any penalties or violations of the parc fermé. Valtteri Bottas is allowed to drive on a special permit after being disqualified from qualifying yesterday.

The British Grand Prix starts in an hour at Silverstone!

2:40 p.m

In the grid

Again for clarification, because that caused some confusion.

The “Team” APXGP from the Formula 1 film will later be on the starting grid but will NOT take part in the formation lap.

Damson Idris, one of the two main actors (‘Joshua Pearce’), has already presented the racing overalls and I think that’s absolutely impressive.

retro chic

The Formula 1 drivers went to their drivers’ parade in Silverstone today in beautiful vintage cars.

Representing the classic in the driver field, Fernando Alonso, in an equally beautiful classic.

The next record

With a win, Max Verstappen could reach the next record today or the next step up to an absolute one.

His sixth win in a row would draw him level with Michael Schumacher, who has won every race from Italy 2000 to Malaysia 2001. Verstappen would be in shared fifth place.

It would be Verstappen’s 43rd victory in Formula 1, he is now on the way to replacing Alain Prost with his 51 victories in fourth place.

It would be Red Bull Racing’s 11th consecutive victory, level with McLaren, who achieved the feat from Brazil 1988 to Belgium 1988 and currently hold the top spot in the category. They would then share this with Red Bull.

There are even more statistics in our extensive Formula 1 database!

legends amongst themselves

In continental Europe in particular, we always get a little trip back in time as part of the Formula 1 supporting program. At Silverstone they call it “Legends Parade” and I think it’s great.

We have put together a small series of photos for you with a few highlights. Enjoy browsing!

Everything a little different

A question came in via Twitter about the pit lane at Silverstone, which is divided up differently than at other racetracks. Here, the top teams are more likely to be found in the middle of the garage row. I once gave this question to my colleague Stefan Ehlen, who is happy to answer it:

“This is due to the pit lane in Silverstone, which is not visible in some cases. The rear part is not visible from the main grandstand, it disappears behind a small elevation. That’s why the teams that are important for the British fans have been placed in such a way that they are clearly visible.”

As a follow-up question, I asked out of interest whether that makes a difference for the pit stop delta:

“Actually, only P1 and P10 is an advantage when driving in and out of the parking space. Everyone else has to turn and exit, P1 can drive straight in, P10 can drive straight out. That’s a minimal advantage, I would say. The rest doesn’t change anything.”

This generally applies to all series. Have we settled that too!

Nice gimmick

Perhaps you noticed yesterday in the television broadcast of the third free practice session that there are now new overlays from the helicopter that stick the initials on the cars while driving.

For these overlays, the Formula 1 producers use intelligent computer technology that uses lap times, distances and route data to recognize the cars from the helicopter perspective and display the correct name. They can even be linked to the current speed.

Sure, things weren’t always completely clean, sometimes the abbreviation covered the car completely, but it’s nice to see that new gimmicks are always coming up to increase the viewing pleasure.

Frentzen is back!

Did you actually see the interview with former Formula 1 driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen during the Sky Germany broadcast yesterday?

Since his daughter really wanted to do Formula 1 and encouraged her father a bit to share his memories on social media, he doesn’t just have his Twitter account reactivated, but also took part in a recording for the official Formula 1 podcast “Beyond the Grid”.

I don’t know about you, but I’m happy that Frentzen is more in the public eye again and I hope that we’ll see him in our regular channel members’ table at the Formula1.de YouTube channel or in the Formula 1 podcast “Starting Grid” get. Or both!

How will be the weather?

One question that is always very important to you on race day is about the weather.

Our weatherman Stefan Ehlen has just updated the weather report and wrote me as a summary for the live ticker:

“Lots of clouds, but still sunny at up to 23 degrees Celsius. The chance of rain increases in the second half of the race, but even then it’s only 30 percent. And if it rains, it’s probably only light. Tailwind on the home straight and headwind on the hangar Straights at 20 km/h on average and up to 40 km/h at the top.”
