The Puy-de-Dôme police highlight the men “without whom nothing would have been possible” (and it is the outcry)

The “message” has been deleted. But the comments continue, by the dozens. An outcry. This Tuesday, on the occasion of Women’s Rights Day, the Puy-de-Dôme national police had a “bright” idea on the social network Twitter: highlighting… men, “without whom nothing would have been possible”.

The message from the police department, this March 8? “Dedication to all these men without whom nothing would have been possible. Jules Ferry, secular and compulsory education. Jean Jaurès, in favor of female suffrage. Adoption of the right to vote and eligibility of women under Charles de Gaulle…”.

Comment (after deletion) of the communication service of the national police of Puy-de-Dôme with regional television? “We have been asked to delete the tweet. We made this tweet for Women’s Day. The initial message was to pay homage to women’s rights. We wanted to say that there were also men who fought alongside women to obtain the rights they have today. It is a historical reminder. The idea was to arouse the curiosity of young people”.

The tweet was rather disgusting and the “message” was perceived quite differently. “To say that it is men who fight for women’s rights is like saying that it is white people who put an end to slavery”, can we read in particular.

In response to this quickly deleted tweet, Internet users noted a similar process with the clip published by the government this Tuesday morning for March 8. A video titled “Letter to the men of tomorrow”, which features several public figures… all male.
