“The Pronunciation” by Sarah Polley: A Movie, Like a Fire Alarm

How to deal with sexual abuse? In Sarah Polley’s Academy Award-nominated drama The Debate, a group of women discuss whether they can forgive their rapists.

That’s never happened to Sarah Polley either. She’s sitting in the middle of an interview, already a bit shaky, when the alarm goes off. Very loudly, very firmly, a male voice calls for the luxury hotel between the Zoo station and the Memorial Church to be vacated. Fire barriers come down and Polley, jacketless and wrapped only in a thin plaid dress, rushes outside into the harsh Berlin wind.
