The previously unpublished photo of the Queen was taken shortly before her death

The Queen would have turned 97 this Friday. That’s why William and Kate share a previously unseen photo of the late monarch with the youngest members of the royal family.

Prince William and Princess Kate honor the late Queen Elizabeth II, who would have celebrated her 97th birthday on April 21, 2023, with a special picture. It shows her with two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Kate is given as the photographer, the photo was taken last summer at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. So days or weeks before the death of the Queen. The Prince and Princess of Wales did not give an exact date.

In the family snapshot, Elizabeth II is seated in the center of a light green sofa, wearing a plaid skirt, a dark blue blouse and a black cardigan over it. Her glasses are on her lap. The Queen laughs reluctantly.

Some of their descendants have gathered around them. At the very back are the Queen’s only two grandchildren pictured: Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex, the children of the current Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Edward and Sophie.

Sitting on the sofa are Mia and Lucas Tindall, the children of granddaughter Zara and Mike Tindall, and Savannah Phillips, eldest daughter of grandson Peter Phillips and his ex-wife Autumn Kelly. In the front row behind the sofa are, from left to right: Lena Tindall, Prince George and Princess Charlotte (William and Kate’s two older children), Isla Phillips and the newborn of the now Welsh couple, Prince Louis.

These great-grandchildren are missing

Missing from the great-grandchildren are August Brooksbank, son of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Sienna Mapelli Mozzi, daughter of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s children: Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96. Exactly where the now published picture was taken. Her son, now King Charles III, succeeded her to the throne. He will be crowned in London’s Westminster Abbey on May 6th.
